Oooh, Shiny!

Wedding Quilt

Now I can't take credit for this one, but it's too good to keep to myself. My mom has been working on a wedding quilt for Dan and me, and the top is now finished and ready to be quilted.

Here it is modeling on our guest bed:

Another beauty shot. Those boxes in the corner? Wa-a-a-y smaller pile than before the weekend. That's one of the unsung bonuses of having friends visit. You get your butt in gear and get some cleaning done.

I just sent it off to my friend Madelin, who will quilt it for us. We'll pick it up when we come up to the Bay Area later this summer. I can't wait to sleep under it!

Abstract Quilt

I wasn't able to shoot photos of new stuff today, so I thought I'd kick this off with a recent art quilt. My Mom, Sister and I participated in the Abstract quilt challenge that was orgaized by Quilting Arts Magazine. The challenge was to take a photo and abstract it to form the design of the quilt, which could only be 8.5"x11" in size. I have *plenty* of photos to work with, and I have long been interested in using my own photos as design sources.

This was fun, and I hope to make more small, experimental quilts this year.

Next time I do this, I think I'd like to puch myself harder to abstract the image. Maybe I also need to select a less abstract image to start with, if I want to teach my literal brain how to be more abstract!
