Carrying on with yesterday's theme of learning to draw, I am also taking a sketching class through Adult Ed this term. Since I currently have the luxury of taking weekday classes, I enrolled in the Thursday morning session. Most everyone else in the class is painting watercolor landscapes, but the name of the course is Beginning Sketching in Pen, Ink and Watercolor, so I am choosing to take that at face value.
This week's location was the Santa Barbara Amtrak station. I did the rough sketch at right to try out perspective during the instructor's demo.
Then I kind of wussed out and did a head on view of the station for my painting. I was pretty happy with the drawign itself. I'm still grappling with color and brush control when I add watercolor, though. Here, I was following the instructor's advice to get more paint on the paper. I'm pleased with the deeper shades here; my past paintings have been on the pale side.
